Located south of downtown Kobe (Sannomiya), the man-made ‘Port Island' made its debut, at the occasion of the Kobe Portopia Exhibition held with great success in 1981, as a convention city with an international conference hall and hotels and as a fashion town where fashion industry, show stages and galleries send out messages heralding new mode and life style. In 2006 the new airport started its service, close offshore the Port Island , making it a most convenient location, just between downtown Kobe and the airport, easily accessible from all directions.
