Urban design suited to R&D and resistant to disaster

Port Island is clearly divided into a living area (1st phase) and a research and development area (2nd phase). The 2nd phase area is specialized for research and development and other business activities. As a disaster preparedness measure it is built with a high ground height. It is not one of the areas forecast to be inundated in the event of a tsunami following a large earthquake in the Nankai Trough.*

Reduce costs via rental facilities and outsourcing

In addition to a diverse range of tenant facilities (rental laboratories and offices), KBIC also provides facilities for temporary use (radioisotope experiments and animal experiments), enabling effective research and projects with minimal initial investment. The cluster can also respond to detailed outsourcing needs through a number of highly specialized companies capable of providing services such as custom chemical synthesis, model animal supply, and prototype production via 3D printing.
